The second contemporary issue, which was abortion, caused me to first examine and then apply my principles. I tend to lean more towards John Locke, therefore, I had depended on his wisdom of "natural rights" to be applied to the issue of abortion. On the foundation that you have to be born to obtain these rights, I must conclude that abortion is indeed moral. These stipulations seem to be very staight forward and the compelling arguement of Warren and her 5 criteria for being human does support it, so, I see no need for adjustment.
I least argee with the arguments of Noonen because although he so easily can refute the shakey arguments of pro-choicers, I havent read anything from him that can stand up to Warren's 5 criteria that, to me, puts thing in perspective minus centement and decentcy that can cloud moral judgement.

I completely agree with your standpoint on how Warren seemed more convincing than Noonan, however I do think that there is a certain point where you shouldnt be allowed to abort a baby. Like we talked about in class, I feel as though once the fetus gets passed the point of just being a zygote we as people can now relate it to some what of a human. I do agree with you though that abortion is moral, I just think there are some boundaries with it that can't be crossed
ReplyDeleteI find it very interesting how people's ideas and morals can contrast so greatly. For example, you and I are on a completely different opinions towards Warrent's 5 criteria for being human. You seem to believe that they completely sum up what it is to be human whereas, I feel that a list cannot sum up exactly what it means to be human. I feel that there is so much more to life, scientifically and morally, than the list that Warren composed. I am just curious, where exactly do you feel life begins than?
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you! although like i stated in my blog, i am not sure if the rights start after birth. would you say that it is okay to abort a child a day before it is due? i feel abortion needs to be done early on in the pregnancy. i suppose that is were my morals come in and i tend to dissagree with warren just at this point. other wise Noonan doesn't know what he is talking about. men...
ReplyDeleteI agree with 'thebrittbloom' in regards to when the fetus is actually aborted. Like I said in my blog, after a certain amount of time, it becomes more immoral to actually abort the child, for example, 8 or 9 months into the pregnancy, or like she said, the day before it's due. But other than that, great post! I agree with you about how Warren was more convincing than Noonan!
